- Journalist Day is celebrated in India every year on 6 January. This day is celebrated in memory of veteran journalist and founder of the first Marathi language newspaper ‘Darpan’, Balshastri Jambhekar.
- Balshastri Jambhekar is considered the “father of Marathi journalism”. He started the newspaper ‘Darpan’ on 6 January 1832 and worked to bring truth to the people. Journalists’ Day is a day to honor the tireless efforts of journalists.
- Journalists are considered the fourth pillar of society. They do an important job of exposing problems in society and creating awareness. On the occasion of Journalists’ Day, respect is expressed for the contribution of journalists who monitor various developments in society.
