- Pravasi Bharatiya Divas
Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is celebrated every year on 9 January. The purpose of this day is to honour Indians living abroad and express gratitude for their contributions.
Mahatma Gandhi returned to India from South Africa on 9 January 1915 and thereafter led the independence movement. This day was chosen to commemorate his return.
Indians living abroad are making remarkable contributions in various fields, such as science, technology, economy, and preserving cultural heritage. They form an important link between India and countries around the world.
Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is celebrated with programmes, conferences and seminars to honour Indians living abroad. This day recognises the contributions of Indians at the global level and highlights their important role in India’s progress.
